News Items Summer Ball - Saturday 11th July 2009 We have had to cancel the planned Summer Ball in July 2009, because of a lack of positive responses. We plan to try again later in the year. Monday 8th June 2009 COMMODORE’S BLOG > 12 June 2009 > > As the summer season is upon us and quite a few of us are away or going away, putting this is on the Club Website is probably the easiest way to communicate with you all. KATAKLYSMOS – 8 June As most of you will know, we were asked by the Mayor to run an on-water experience for local kids. Brian Sargent and Peter Bruce volunteered to be a Kataklysmos sub-committee and co-ordinate preparations for the big day. About 40 kids (and a couple of parents) took advantage of the opportunity to have up to an hour on the water. This was due entirely to the goodwill of members who made themselves and their boats available for the three hours that were allowed for the event. The Mayor was very appreciative of our participation and has already asked us to put on a similar event next Kataklysmos. Many club members showed their willingness to work for theclub and I would particularly like to thank the following:- The skippers and crew members of Santana, Ruby May, Pete’s Pet, Kingston, Caledonia, Lazy Sunday, April and QM3. Rod M for communications and providing the gazebo we used as a base. Liz for counting them out and counting them back in again. Sonja for liaising with the printer and loads of running around, and Joan for lots more running around. We also received a lot of support from Minas and Joan at Trident Boat Hire who provided the safety boat and floatation jackets. So thank you all, plus any I have failed to mention and especially Brian and Peter. SUMMER DINNER DANCE At the time of writing we do not have enough names to make the holding of a summer dinner dance viable. The only thing which will stop the event being cancelled is for you to decide you can go and give your names to Sonja ASAP. Even if you can’t go please let her know as she needs definite go/no go responses. ON WATER EVENTS The last planned event, the GPS navigation test, was a non-starter as nobody turned up apart from the organisers. As a result we will hold it later in the year provided we get prior notification of at least half a dozen definite intentions to take part. It’s not difficult, you don’t even have to go out of sight of land! The social events and on-water events take effort and planning and it is a big let down when we don’t get the support of the members who joined precisely because we do have these events. So please support your club as much as possible by turning out for things that have been laid on for you. AND FINALLY........... The Committee is very aware that as a club we have a long way to go. We need a building to call our own and we need club dinghies. Rest assured that the Committee is working > on these and other issues and will let you know more when > the time is right. You will shortly be receiving > notification of the AGM. Please make every effort to > attend as it is an opportunity to ask the Committee about > our activities. > > That’s all for now, have a good summer. > > Peter McKinnon AGM 12 the September 2009 Advance Notice: the Club's 2009 AGM will be held at 11:30 A.M. at the Y & P Hotel in Latchi.
